outreach: Family promise
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) working with Family Promise, is a network of congregations in the Savannah area that take turns hosting homeless families with children for a week at a time on a rotating basis. While in the Family Promise program, staff professionals help the parents prepare for and find employment. In the evenings, the families "live" at churches like St. Peter's for a week at a time. There, they have dinner, spend the night and are up for an early breakfast. The Family Promise van picks them up to get on with their day at the Family Promise Day Center while children go off to school.
As is done at the other participating churches, St. Peter's volunteers prepare and share a dinner with them at the church and visit with the parents and perhaps help the children with their homework. Additional volunteers spend the night at St. Peter's and are up early to serve breakfast. To learn more, contact Jim Brawner at firstname.lastname@example.org.
